The Mirage

Glittering in the midst of the Strip, the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas is no illusion. Exquisite dining, luxurious accommodations, and celebrity entertainment blend together to create a tropical fantasy and one of the most renowned Las Vegas hotels ever built.

History of the Mirage

Built in 1989 by Steve Wynn, the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was one of the first "superhotels" to grace the famous Strip. Wynn wanted this hotel to be different, to initiate visitors into the realm of ultimate luxury and fantasy. The hotel encompasses more than four million square feet, and contrary to the reputation of many Las Vegas hotels, less than five percent of the space is dedicated to gambling.

Across the street from the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino, adjacent to the world famous Caesar's Palace, and linked by a free monorail to the neighboring Treasure Island, the Mirage is in the heart of the northern Strip, and the energizing pulse of the city can be found in every corner of the property.

Staying at the Mirage

Guests at the Mirage find themselves enveloped in a fantasy that never fades away. The white and gold exterior evokes images of desert riches leading to the Polynesian interior décor that creates an exotic oasis trimmed with abundant marble, tropical foliage, and polished bamboo. The luxurious hotel is equipped to provide for visitors' every whim, from exquisite cuisine to decadent pampering to stellar entertainment.

Dining

The Mirage offers a wide range of different restaurants, including the choice of seafood, Italian, Asian and Brazilian menus. The Cravings buffet is considered one of the best in Las Vegas, and naturally full room service is available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, round-the-clock snacks, and even gift delivery.

Mirage Las Vegas Hotel Accommodations

With more than 2,700 guest rooms, the Mirage can accommodate literally thousands of guests each night. Four types of suites (petite, hospitality, tower, and penthouse) range from 800-1600 square feet and offer expanded amenities such as priority show and restaurant seating, whirlpool tubs, safes, bathrobes, refreshment centers, and fresh flowers. All rooms are decorated in refreshing botanical prints and rich hues of burgundy and gold with marble entries and baths that accentuate the luxury for which Las Vegas hotels are known. While the hotel is not inexpensive, you may be able to get a better rate by booking a Las Vegas Mirage vacation package.

Hotel Amenities

In addition to exquisite dining and luxurious rooms, the Mirage has many amenities available for hotel guests. The deluxe spa and health club offers a wide variety of treatments, including manicures, pedicures, hydrotherapy, hot stone and deep tissue massages, waxing and makeup services, mud masks, body wraps and more. Guests can relax in a swimming and sunning complex complete with isolated lagoons and waterfalls while the bell desk staff is happy to arrange tours, transportation and other services.

Visiting the Mirage

Visitors do not need to book a room at the Mirage in order to experience its wonders. Tourists are welcome to walk through the lobby and visit the Polynesian-themed casino, and many attractions are open to the public with varying prices.

Mirage Las Vegas Tourist Attractions

The focal point of the Las Vegas hotel's exterior is the 55-foot-tall volcano with hundred-foot eruptions powered by natural gas periodically every evening (weather permitting). More than 120,000 gallons of water cascade down the volcano's sides each minute to provide continual "eruptions" in this free show complete with smoke and lights.

Inside the hotel, visitors are entranced by the 60-foot-long, 20,000-gallon exotic fish tank behind the registration desk complete with sharks, stingrays and other tropical species. More exotic animals are housed in the Secret Garden habitat, home to the famous white lions and tigers once featured in the Siegfried and Roy show. In 1990, a dolphin habitat was added and ten Atlantic bottlenose dolphins make their homes in this semi-tropical paradise.

Visitors can shop in a variety of designer boutiques at the Mirage, and the Jet nightclub provides superb nightlife on weekends.

Entertainment

Las Vegas hotels are known for their celebrity entertainment, and the Mirage is no exception. Danny Gans is the hotel's principal headliner, with a seventy-minute show featuring more than 100 clever impressions, including Garth Brooks, Pee Wee Herman, Homer Simpson, Elvis, Michael Jackson, and assorted presidents and other celebrated personalities.

Other entertainers are booked at the Mirage on a regular basis, including Jay Leno, David Spade, Wayne Brady, and Ray Romano. Visiting engagements are limited, however, and interested guests should reserve their tickets well in advance to guarantee their seat.
