Ian Schrager's New Gramercy Park Hotel offers both luxurious accommodations & fine dining on historic Gramercy Park in New York City. Steps from Union Square, the Gramercy Park Hotel's eclectic history is revitalized in a collaboration between hotelier Ian Schrager and Julian Schnabel, which takes the concept of luxury boutique hotels to new heights. Designed to reflect the artist-loft, guests will find exhibited 20th century masterpieces by artists Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, and of course, Julian Schnabel. The exhibited works will change periodically and guest curators will be invited to exhibit art of the same caliber and excellence.
Renovated in 2006, the Gramercy Park Hotel was one of New York's truly legendary hotels. Designed by Robert T. Lyons and built by the famous developer brothers Bing and Bing, the Gramercy Park Hotel opened its doors in 1925. It was built on the site of flamboyant architect Stanford White's home, where previously the townhouse in which Edith Wharton was born had stood. The hotel hosted generations of the sort of visitors who make downtown New York "downtown". It was the headquarters for high bohemia, where artists, adventurers and bon vivants rubbed elbows. Humphrey Bogart was married here. Humorist S.J.Perelman lived here because it reminded him of his native London while being convenient to Third Avenue's great delis. Legendary Yankee Babe Ruth liked to drink at its famous bar, which has retained its bohemian charm over the years, serving as a watering hole to generations of artists, writers and musicians.
